We have a summer and winter trails map
Trails had wide clearing limits for groomed nordic use in winter, and narrower tread for hiking and mt. biking. This allowed us to access bridge sites with large equipment like Gradall here.
Working with equipment contractor and Americorps Youth Trail Crew, we built a total of 13 bridges - most are large nordic grooming trail bridges.
Bridges were designed for a nordic trail groomer
Groomer bridges have running board and curb logs for mountain bikes. We do not have bridge rails, due to grooming.
Very high water tables in Government Camp required some subsurface drainage and packed gravel to hold up to sustainable mountain bike use.
Crosstown Trail was reconstructed and serves as the main route from one end of Govy to the other - hence the name.
We had different AmeriCorps Trail Crews work on this project and they were always a hardworking and enthusiastic team.
Trillium Bike Trail had several wet areas that required turnpike and drainages.
Oregon Youth Conservation Corps (OYCC) helped install trail signs on the Government Camp Trail System.
The trail crew and me on the inauguration ride of the newly finished Timberline to Town Trail, our last trail completed in the system. It is the most popular trail in the area!
The Mt. Express Bus will shuttle you to Timberline Lodge where you can ride TImberline to Town, to Crosstown, to Pioneer Bridle to the Forest boundary in Rhododendron, catch the bus and do it again!
Government Camp Trail System Project
Project Overview: The Government Camp Trail System Project constructed over 12 miles of trails around the community of Government Camp. The trails link the town to Timberline Lodge above and Trillium Lake below. The trails were designed for cross-country skiing in winter, and hiking and mountain biking in summer. Trail design had to allow for the winter use as well as achieve mountain biking design guidelines. The project was funded with a combination of Clackamas County Economic Development funds, Forest Service staff, Northwest AmeriCorps Trail Crews, a local equipment contractor, and Recreation Trail Program grant funds.

My Duties: Planner and Project Manager. Grant writing and management, contracting and oversight of equipment operator and AmeriCorps Crew, supervision of Forest Service trail crew, sign plan review, brochure development and marketing.
